On Monday 21st June a wonderful day out was had by participants on a recent Heritage Plus activity to Wakehurst Place . The sun shone and the short trip was made by minibus from WRVS Crawley to Wakehurst Place .
Sheila Cox, a volunteer with Heritage Plus is also a volunteer at Wakehurst Place and we were very privileged to have her as a tour guide for the day. As we wandered through the gardens stops were made through to the Iris Dell which was beautiful at this time of the year. We ambled back towards the Mansion for a spot of lunch and then Sheila gave us a short tour and talk in the Elizabethan Mansion itself, built of local Ardingly sandstone for the Culpeper family. A relaxing stroll through the walled gardens brought the visit to Wakehurst Place to an end and an exhausted group of visitors quietly chatted their return journey to WRVS.
It was unanimously agreed that a thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all.
