Shirley Williams came to Brighton from British Guiana in 1961 to train as a nurse. She has lived here all her adult life, having married and had two children and now has two grandchildren. She has also worked as a nurse all her life and being very aware of how easy it is to slip into an isolated old age on retirement, is determined not to do so.
Shirley still works two nights a week in a nursing home, and travels in Europe and often to Canada where she has family. She likes going to the theatre in London but most of all she loves socialising and she also plays a pivotal role in many of Brighton's social networks.
