On December 1st 2009, WRVS Heritage Plus Portslade was lucky enough to be shortlisted and included in a nationwide competition for artwork from the over 60s. This was for an interactive sound installation and ceramic piece entitled ‘Tea’ which brought together a ceramic tea service with images fired on it of old sayings about food and allotments as well as oral history recordings of the participating WRVS group talking about their lives in Coldean.  The piece was made by the Friends of Coldean history group and community arts charity Same Sky in partnership with WRVS Heritage Plus Portslade and the Trust for Developing Communities.

The piece unfortunately didn’t win but was very well received and excitingly exhibited at the Bankside Gallery on the South Bank in London just next to the Tate Modern, so a real coup in terms of exposure. The group involved were all excited and as a result have since worked on a short documentary with Filmmaker Katrina Wallace to catalogue their local memories
