Meg's memories of her POW Uncle
Images from Stalag1XC Prisoner of War Camp
By Julius Smit
Wartime letters and photographs
Meg's uncle was taken prisoner in France during WW2 and ended up in a prisoner of war camp in Germany. The group photograph taken in the prisoner of war camp, Stalag1XC, has an image of Meg's uncle, as shown by the pencil cross above his head.
Prisoners were allowed to write letters home, and the image of the three letters contains one particular picture of a censored letter, written by Meg's uncle, back to his family. What were the censored words?
Meg's family is descibed in the newspaper cutting. All her family returned from the war alive.
