By John Cheves
This Autumn sees a wide range of events and activities taking place at the WRVS Centre in Crawley, organised by WRVS Heritage Plus. Please see below for all the details.
Celebrations and Special Events Part 2 starts on Thursday 24th September at 1.30 and runs for 5 weeks at the Crawley WRVS Centre. Even those who have not participated in Part 1 will be welcome to come along and join in. We will be recording people's memories of special events during the sessions in the form of note taking.
'Schooldays' will start at WRVS Centre on Tuesday 6th October at the WRVS Centre and will run for ten weeks. This popular activity will be facilitated by Sandrine Case, Textile Artist and we will be talking about schooldays and plan to produce a piece of artwork in which people's schooldays will be celebrated and later put on display. All welcome to attend from 10 am - 11.45 but places are limited so call to book a place first.
Crawley Museum will be running two reminiscence sessions on Monday 2nd November and Monday 9th November at the WRVS Centre. This will be followed by a trip to the Museum on the third Monday (16th) for a tour of the current collection. The times for these sessions will be 10-12. Topics to be covered are schooldays and home life. Once again all are welcome to attend.
Monday 23rd November and a 2pm start sees a production by 'The Weavers' at the WRVS Centre Crawley. Come along and see the Centre transformed and enjoy an afternoon of the Roaring '20s in song and verse and sing-a-long to some of your favourites!
On Friday 27th November we will be having a presentation by RAF Crawley Branch President Marcel Lascaux entitled 'The French Connection'. Marcel will be giving a talk about his connection with the famous Lascaux caves in France amongst other things and some personal history supported by books and photos. This will start at 10.30 in the main hall at the WRVS Centre, Crawley.
