The Weavers Old Time Variety Show
Performance at the WRVS Centre in Crawley
By John Cheves
The Weavers old time performance was premiered on Monday 29th June 2009 at Crawley WRVS centre. The show was a mix of poems, songs, monologues and an 'all together now' medley. The show came about as a result of workshops organised by WRVS Heritage Plus and facilitated by Nicola Benge.
22 people overall took part in rehearsals with the final performance involving eight people altogether, which included members of another local veteran group of performers, Spice of Life accompanied by the wonderfully talented pianist Marcel Lescaut.
The show itself was a great success with around 30 audience members enjoying the performance and joining in on many of the songs. Those who did participate and committed lot of time to the project despite broken toes and other ailments, were excellent performers who gave their all in rehearsals and during the show.
