Intergenerational Homefront event in Newhaven
Local schoolchildren learn about life in Wartime Britain
By John Cheves
This special event held on the 13th of March, 2009 at the Hillcrest Centre in Newhaven brought together children from South Down School with older members of the local community to learn about life on the Homefront during the Second World War.
Everyone was entertained by the people of Timespan, who brought the era alive with songs, stories and a huge range of artifacts from the era. The children could examine gas masks and hear a real air raid siren, whilst chatting to people about their experiences of wartime Britain.
Heritage Plus provided a wartime-themed tea for everyone who attended and were on hand to collect people's stories and scan their old photographs, to publish in our website's archive.
