'Lost Skills' and 'Childhood' activities in Heathfield

Remembering our youth and the skills of yesteryear
By John Cheves

The photographs below were taken at two workshops at Holdenhurst Day Centre in Heathfield in 2008 that were organised by Heritage Plus in Hastings, on the themes of childhood and lost skills. Participants talked about their memories of growing up, and the kind of work they did in their younger days.

The sessions were facilitated by freelance artist Tara Reddy, and everyone's memories from the lost skills workshop were used to create a wall of tiles with photographs, illustrations and text. You can view the finished artwork here.

The childhood workshop included many memories of wartime and were used to produce a 'Chair of Memories' that can be seen here.
