This was a ten week activity run at Crawley WRVS Centre in which we heard a variety of stories and experiences of gardening, useful tips about allotments, lost skills and growing vegetables. We also learned about food preservation and recipes from times gone by.
During the course of the activity our textile artist Sandrine Case led the project in producing this wonderful scarecrow named 'Jasper'. He is covered in patches amongst other things with little snippets of these invaluable stories and memories.
Participants were involved in every artistic aspect including vegetable painting, bird painting, stuffing and sewing as well as screen painting.
The scarecrow is on display in the centre and will soon be part of the exhibition destined for Crawley Library.
