In November 2007 the WRVS Heritage Plus held an Intergenerational 1940s Sing a-long event. 30 mature citizens from Peacehaven, Newhaven and Seaford attended, these included participants, volunteers and members of the Mature Citizens Forum. 30 children from Southdown School in Newhaven also attended. The Swingtime Sweethearts provided the entertainment; song sheets and flags were handed out to everyone. Refreshments included fish paste, jam sandwiches, wartime cakes, and jellies.
The children asked the mature citizens questions about World War II and about being evacuees. The event was a great success and everyone really enjoyed themselves. One person made the comment 'You really have captured the wartime spirit.'
The event also offered an opportunity for local project 'Our Newhaven' to collect and scan photographs from people to go on the 'Our Newhaven' website.
