I wasn't happy at school, I left at fourteen and wanted to be a nanny but that would have cost money so I went to work in a hosiery factory (overlocking). It was a long commute to work. I was out of the house at 7am and never back home before 7pm. I had a long walk down the road and it was pitch black, no street lights then.
My first job in the factory was tabbing and folding in half, a very boring job. If it was wrong it had to be done again. It was piece work so you had to be quick.
