Fancy dancing
When I was single and living in London I went to dance at Covent garden. I would have been 16 or 17. We saw Joe Loss there. We used to go in the afternoons, we'd take time off work. We danced foxtrots and the Valetta. I used to wear a white dress with pink dots all over and it was flared. We used to get our clothes from the market. After I was 18 I didn't go anymore.
Nip here and nip there
My aunt worked in one of the Lyons Corner houses, we used to go to them, the waitresses were called nippies. She married a waiter, they'd work in Brighton in the summer. Lyons offered very good training for waitresses.
